Our Organization

Under the Director, the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) is organized into two major divisions - School Operations and Policy, Evaluation, and Post Secondary Education.

The School Operations Division is headed by a Deputy Director with one Assistant Deputy Director for Administration located in Albuquerque, N.M. - (Central Office - West). Three Associate Deputy Directors, with offices strategically located across the United States, report to the Deputy Director and oversee 6 to 7 Education Line Offices. Each of the 19 Education Line Offices work with 4 to 14 BIE-funded schools.

The Policy, Evaluation and Post Secondary Education Division is headed by a Deputy Director and is located in Washington, D.C. at the Department of the Interior - (Central Office - East). The Deputy Director heads up the Division of Planning and Research and the Division of Post Secondary Education. The Division of Planning and Research has 2 Branches - the Branch of Research and Policy Analysis and the Branch of Planning. The Division of Post Secondary Education is headed by the Associate Deputy Director. The Division Chief for Compliance, Monitoring and Accountability reports to the BIE Director with an office located in Albuquerque, N.M.
